XCOM, the tense video game series about scrambling a squad to fend off an alien invasion, is coming to the tabletop. London studio Modiphius has announced XCOM: The Miniatures Game, and pre-orders open this July ahead of a retail release in the autumn and winter.

Find events near youIf you have lost evenings to the video games, the pitch will feel familiar. This is a solo and cooperative miniatures game where you build and expand your XCOM headquarters, research new technology, generate missions as the war escalates, and send a squad of operatives into tactical firefights. There is also a player-versus-player mode that lets someone take command of the aliens. The rules run to a 180-page core book built on Modiphius's Five Parsecs From Home engine, the well-liked solo skirmish system, so the bones are already proven.
The first wave leans on XCOM's greatest hits. Your operatives face off against Sectoids, Thin Men and the ever-terrifying Chryssalids, with S.H.I.V.s, MEC Troopers and the EXALT faction promised down the line. The resin miniatures come from the same team behind Modiphius's Fallout, Elder Scrolls and Mass Effect ranges, which sets a high bar for the sculpts.
Stop juggling Meetup, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets. One platform for your gaming group's events, RSVPs, and member management.
See how it worksHandily, pre-ordering the rulebook gets you an instant PDF, so you can test the rules with proxy minis before the boxes ship. XCOM has always been a game about a small band holding the line together, so it is a natural fit for a co-op night. If you want a squad to command it with, find your people here.
