If you have ever fancied a heavier eurogame built entirely around Arthurian legend, Siege Perilous is in its final week on Gamefound and worth a look. It is a competitive sandbox for 1 to 4 players that drops you into Arthur's Britain as a knight chasing glory, virtue and, ultimately, the dangerous seat at the Round Table that only the worthiest can claim.
Stop juggling Meetup, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets. One platform for your gaming group's events, RSVPs, and member management.
See how it worksRather than a scripted campaign, Siege Perilous hands you an open map of 12 kingdoms to roam. Each is dotted with places to visit (castles, markets, churches, training towers, ports and the famed Forest Sauvage among them) and more than 100 legendary figures to meet along the way. You develop skills, cultivate virtues, take on Merlin's quests, march off on foreign campaigns and tangle with rival players, all in pursuit of renown. It is the sort of design that wants to be a personal Arthurian saga rather than a race to a victory-point finish line.
The part that has caught people's eye is the art. Every element has been hand-painted by Jay Johnstone, who used traditional medieval techniques, real pigments and gold leaf across more than 250 original paintings. The result looks closer to an illuminated manuscript than a typical board game, which suits a game steeped in Malory, Geoffrey of Monmouth and Welsh and Irish myth.
