If your game nights ever descend into finger-pointing, wild accusations and at least one wrongly condemned friend, you probably have The Werewolves of Miller's Hollow to thank. The social deduction classic is turning 25, and publisher Zygomatic is marking the milestone with a 25 Years Special Edition, out on 7 August 2026.
Run game nights? Backseat Gamer handles RSVPs, waitlists, date polling, and game voting so you can focus on playing.
Start organising for freeFirst released in 2001 by designers Philippe des Pallières and Hervé Marly, Werewolves took the old parlour game Mafia and gave it a narrator, a deck of characters and a whole village to tear itself apart. One player runs the night while the werewolves secretly pick off villagers; by day, everyone argues about who to string up. It scales to big groups. The base game handles 8 to 18 players in about half an hour, which is exactly why it has been a club and party staple for two decades. The anniversary edition packs 28 role cards and a rulebook with four scenarios for more variety, at around £19 ($24.99).
It is also about the easiest game going to run for a crowd. You need a big enough group and a willingness to lie to your friends, and the bigger the group the better it plays. If you fancy hosting a werewolf night, set up a session and see who turns up. Twenty-five years on, nobody has found a better way to make a room full of people distrust each other.
Stop juggling Meetup, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets. One platform for your gaming group's events, RSVPs, and member management.
