Prime Video has dropped the first trailer for The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4, confirming a 3 June 2026 premiere and a villain that any D&D table should recognise instantly: the Whispered One, the in-Exandria name for Vecna. The lich-god has been threatening to surface since Critical Role's original 2015 D&D campaign, and his arrival on screen is going to send a wave of new players hunting for Vecna-themed games.

Start organising for freeFor the uninitiated, Vox Machina is the animated adaptation of Critical Role's first D&D playthrough, which ran for 115 episodes from 2015 to 2017. Season three ended with the Chroma Conclave dragons defeated and the party going their separate ways. Season four picks up a year later, with a death cult attempting to drag the Whispered One back into the world. That triggers a reunion no one was quite ready for, with new dangers, big losses, and at least one body-swap moment between Grog and Pike that the trailer is, frankly, unhinged about.
Wayne Brady joins the cast as Taryon Darrington, the inventor-aristocrat who muscled into the original Critical Role campaign in arc four. Bringing him in pulls the show closer to one of the most beloved stretches of the source campaign and adds a comedic spark just as the tone gets bleaker.

Set up your group for freeThe 12-episode season rolls out in three-episode weekly drops on Prime Video, starting 3 June and finishing 24 June. After that, the timing slots neatly into the start of Critical Role's Echoes of Exandria live tour, which hits Edinburgh Castle on 12 July before crossing the country to London's O2 in October.
If the show converts your group into Vecna-curious gamers, the Wizards of the Coast adventure Vecna: Eve of Ruin is in print and tailor-made for a campaign run-up. Round up a table on Backseat Gamer and start rolling.
