With just days left on its Gamefound campaign, Unstable Games is doubling down on the competitive side of Here to Slay. The studio has announced Sorcerers & Squires, a brand new expansion for the original take-that card game, right in the middle of its cooperative Dungeons campaign.
That split is worth noting. Here to Slay Dungeons takes the franchise in a completely different direction from the original, adding cooperative adventure play where 2-4 players tackle modular dungeon scenarios with bosses, ability schools, and hero progression. Sorcerers & Squires, by contrast, bolsters the competitive game that put Here to Slay on the map as one of Kickstarter's top 50 most-backed projects. The expansion adds new party leaders, monsters, banner cards, and 36 standard cards to the mix.
For fans of the original's quick, chaotic rounds of recruiting heroes and sabotaging your friends, this signals that Unstable Games isn't abandoning the competitive formula just because Dungeons is the new shiny thing. The two product lines look set to run in parallel.
The Dungeons campaign itself has been a strong performer, passing the $4 million mark with over 15,000 backers since launching on 24 March. It closes on 14 April, leaving a narrow window for anyone who wants to jump in. Late pledges may follow, but Unstable Games hasn't confirmed that yet.
