You are a mystic trying to bend fate before your rivals do, and on your turn you pick one of four actions: earn coins, draft new cards, ascend to a higher level, or capture a tarot card and take its power. Your opponents then choose whether to follow your lead or pass, and higher level cards let them follow for free. That follow mechanism is where the game actually lives, because every action you take is also an offer to everyone else at the table.
Winning means gathering Fate tokens, and there are several routes to them. Ascend to the top level of a suit, capture the highest tarot beneath a suit, trade coins in, or trigger tarot powers that hand them over. You need between five and seven depending on how many are playing, and a game runs around 24 minutes.
