Kill Team Terror on Devlan Brings Boss Monsters on 23 May

Skirmish wargames usually mean six-strong squads creeping past barricades, but Kill Team is about to host something a lot bigger. Games Workshop's Terror on Devlan drops on Saturday 23 May with UK retail around £98, and it adds the Red Terror, a serpentine Tyranid that can vanish under the kill zone, regenerate by eating models whole, and ruin your day on activation. Pre-orders open Saturday 9 May.

The headline mechanic is the new Nemesis Operatives system. Until now, Kill Team has been resolutely small-scale, but Nemesis rules let you bring towering models from across 40K's range, including Redemptor Dreadnoughts and Screamer-Killers, into a campaign as a special operative or shared boss. It is the closest Kill Team has come to its older Inquisitor cousin in years, and it gives existing 40K players a way to dust off their hero models for narrative play instead of leaving them on a shelf.

The box itself is properly stuffed. You get 10 Spectre Squad operatives, an elite Astra Militarum kill team with a Vox-Relay beacon and grizzled-Cadian energy, the Red Terror Nemesis miniature, 10 Termagants, a Ripper Swarm, the dossier for the Terror on Devlan campaign, 27 mission cards and 40 datacards. Spectre Squad will also get its own standalone box for players who want to expand without the Nemesis side.

Boss-monster missions slot beautifully into a shop campaign night, and the new mission cards mean you can run a multi-week event without inventing your own scenarios. If you are organising a Kill Team league for the summer, list it on Backseat Gamer so local players can find it.
