If you have been hunting for a copy of Lords of Waterdeep on the secondhand market, your search is almost over. Renegade Game Studios is reprinting the D&D worker placement game, with pre-orders open now and a May 2026 retail release.
Lords of Waterdeep launched in 2012 from Wizards of the Coast and quickly became one of the hobby's go-to gateway games, picking up an ENnie Award for Best RPG-Related Product along the way. Players take on the roles of Masked Lords competing for control of the city, recruiting adventurers (represented as coloured cubes) and sending them on quests to earn influence. With a BGG rating around 7.8 and over 60,000 ratings, it is one of the most widely played worker placement games around. Its long absence from store shelves turned it into a secondhand treasure hunt, with copies regularly fetching a premium on eBay.
The reprint is a faithful re-release with no changes to the art or components. The base game comes in at $55, including the game board, five player mats, 121 cards, 100 adventurer cubes, and 170 die-cut pieces. The excellent Scoundrels of Skullport expansion, which adds corruption mechanics and a sixth player, is also returning at $40.
Lords of Waterdeep remains one of the smoothest introductions to worker placement. Experienced players appreciate the bluffing layer of secret lord identities, while newcomers get a clean, satisfying loop of placing agents, gathering resources, and completing quests. If your group has been meaning to try it, now is the time to get a session planned. Pre-orders are available on the Renegade Game Studios website.
