Robert Jordan fans have waited a long time for this one. Dire Wolf Digital, the studio behind Dune: Imperium and Clank!, has revealed War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time, the first major board game adaptation of the 14-book epic. It is heading to Kickstarter this spring, and given Dire Wolf's track record, that is going to be one of the bigger crowdfunding launches of 2026.

See how it worksWar of the Dragon is a two-player asymmetric strategy game pitching the Dragon Reborn against the Dark One, blending tableau building, set collection and area control as the conflict sweeps across Jordan's world. Two play modes are baked in. Hero Mode is the gentler on-ramp aimed at newer players, while Epic Mode hands you massive armies and stretches the conflict from the Battle of the Two Rivers in The Shadow Rising all the way through to the cataclysmic Last Battle. Sign up before the campaign launches and you get two free promo cards in your pledge, including Hopper, He Who Soars and Bela, Loyal Steed.
This is a meaningful pick for the IP. Dire Wolf turned Dune: Imperium into one of the most beloved games of the last five years, with the original currently parked near the top of BGG's strategy rankings and a long shelf of expansions including Rise of Ix, Immortality and Bloodlines. Putting that team on Wheel of Time, which has built a renewed audience thanks to the Amazon TV series, is a move that should land well with strategy fans across the spectrum.
