Zombicide: Dead Men Tales Hits Gamefound 22 April

Fantasy Flight Games is putting its own stamp on Zombicide for the first time, and the result is not what most fans expected. Zombicide: Dead Men Tales launches on Gamefound on 22 April, taking the franchise into a pirate-fantasy setting complete with elves, orcs, dark magic, and cannons. This is the first Zombicide title published under Fantasy Flight since Asmodee acquired the IP from CMON in June 2025.

The biggest question for Zombicide veterans: will FFG deliver the towering piles of miniatures that defined CMON's campaigns? That has not been confirmed yet. What we do know is that Dead Men Tales supports 1-6 players in cooperative play, with an age-of-sail setting that introduces cannon fire and rope-swinging mechanics alongside a new villain called The Governor. The game aims to keep Zombicide's accessible, fast-paced identity while the fantasy-pirate setting gives designers room to explore new territory.

The Gamefound campaign bundles three products together. Alongside the board game, backers get the Plaguebearer Roleplaying Game, a tabletop RPG set in the Fantasy Zombicide world. The Black Plague Graphic Novel Volume 2 rounds out the package. Bundling a board game, an RPG, and a graphic novel in a single campaign signals that Fantasy Flight sees Zombicide as a setting to expand across formats, not just a single product line.

This launch will be closely watched. CMON built Zombicide into one of the biggest names in crowdfunded board gaming before financial struggles forced the IP sale. Fantasy Flight has the resources and design pedigree to take it further, but the fan community has strong expectations. The Gamefound launch on 22 April should reveal pricing, stretch goals, and whether those beloved miniature mountains make the crossing to FFG. If you are planning a group pledge, Backseat Gamer events can help you coordinate launch-day plans with your crew.
