HandyCon 20 Hits Milton Keynes Next Weekend with Saturday Sold Out

If you fancy a weekend of nothing but board games, good company, and zero pressure to buy anything, HandyCon 20 is back in Milton Keynes from 17 to 19 April. Saturday tickets have already sold out, so if you want in, grab a Sunday pass before those go too.

Got a regular group? Create a private community, poll for the best date, vote on games, and let your friends RSVP in one place.

HandyCon is not your typical convention. There is no massive trade hall, no cosplay competition, no celebrity panels. It is a play-focused weekend where roughly 180 board gamers descend on the Delta Hotels by Marriott to do one thing: sit down and play games together. The library alone stocks over 500 titles, from quick party games to all-day epics, and volunteer "HandyCrew" members in bright orange t-shirts are on hand to teach rules and find you a table.

Founded in January 2017 by Paul Frohnsdorff-Harris (the name comes from the Handy Cross roundabout near its original High Wycombe venue), the convention now runs four times a year. This 20th event carries the "Over the Rainbow" theme, continuing a tradition of playful naming that has included "Castles of Burghandy" and "HandyCon Noir."

Stop juggling Meetup, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets. One platform for your gaming group's events, RSVPs, and member management.

See how it works

What makes HandyCon special for newcomers is deliberate. Attendees wearing rainbow lanyards signal they are happy to welcome solo players into their game. A Breakfast Club session runs Friday and Saturday mornings specifically for first-timers looking to meet people. Evening sessions bring out Blood on the Clocktower, murder mysteries, and party games for those who want to keep rolling late.

Weekend tickets start around £25 for adults and half-price for children aged 6 to 15. Milton Keynes Central station is on the West Coast Main Line, roughly 30 minutes from London Euston, with the hotel a short taxi ride from the station. Free parking is available on-site for drivers.

HandyCon is a brilliant example of how a welcoming, play-first approach builds a loyal gaming community. If you run your own game nights or community events, it is worth studying. Or just turn up, borrow from the library, and ask to join a table. The HandyCrew will sort you out.
