Handelabra Buys Sentinel Comics After Greater Than Games Collapse

Sentinels of the Multiverse has a future again. Handelabra Games, the studio behind the franchise's popular digital adaptations, announced on 13 April that it has purchased Sentinel Comics and the Greater Than Games brand from Flat River Group after nearly a year of negotiations.

The deal covers all Sentinel Comics properties: Sentinels of the Multiverse (including the Definitive Edition, rated 8.4 on BGG), the Sentinel Comics RPG, Sentinel Tactics, and Galactic Strike Force. No other Greater Than Games titles were part of the acquisition.

Fans have been holding their breath since April 2025, when Greater Than Games dismantled most of its team and the future of Sentinels of the Multiverse 2, Handelabra's digital sequel already funded through BackerKit, went dark. Handelabra considered cancelling the project and refunding backers. Instead, the studio spent months working through the legal process to buy the IP outright.

Development on Sentinels 2 restarted in February 2026, and Handelabra says the game is still on track to ship this calendar year, with the first expansion (Rook City Renegades) still planned.

One important detail: Handelabra is a digital games studio and has no plans to become a tabletop publisher. Physical products will be handled through partnerships with experienced publishers, though no names have been confirmed yet.

Handelabra is celebrating throughout April, with major announcements promised for National Super Hero Day on 28 April. For the cooperative card game community that has rallied around Sentinels since 2011, the franchise is back in hands that clearly care about it.
