Arcs: Beyond the Reach Kickstarter Launches Monday as Buried Giant Studios Debuts

Cole Wehrle's newly formed Buried Giant Studios is set to launch its first Kickstarter campaign on Monday 31 March, bringing three expansions for the critically acclaimed Arcs to crowdfunding.

The headline expansion, Beyond the Reach, is described as "expansive and radical" with new plotlines that push the game's asymmetric space opera in fresh directions. It is joined by two companion expansions: Lost Vaults and Fated Leaders, which adds 31 new court cards, randomised map elements, and powerful new leader abilities; and Halls of Power, a more focused addition "filled with all manner of deviousness."

The campaign marks a significant milestone for Buried Giant Studios, founded in January when Wehrle and artist Kyle Ferrin departed Leder Games in an amicable split. Several other Leder staff joined them, including Josh Yearsley (designer of Root: Homeland), senior graphic designer Pati Hyun, and others. Leder Games retained the rights to Root, while Buried Giant took ownership of both Arcs and Oath.

Ferrin has already shared preliminary artwork for the expansions, confirming that the distinctive visual style that defined the original game will continue under the new banner. Wehrle's personal imprint, Wehrlegig Games, will operate as a semi-independent imprint of Buried Giant going forward.

Arcs has been a fixture on the BGG Hotness chart for nearly a year, and with three expansions arriving at once, Monday's campaign is likely to be one of the biggest board game Kickstarters of the spring.
