Goa: Master Print Edition Launches on Gamefound Today

Rüdiger Dorn's Goa, one of the most respected eurogames of the 2000s, is back. Quined Games launches the Master Print Edition on Gamefound today, giving the 2004 classic a full visual overhaul and a handful of welcome additions.

For anyone unfamiliar, Goa puts you in the boots of a Portuguese spice merchant during the early 16th century. Each round opens with a clever auction phase where you bid on action tiles, then you spend three actions upgrading plantations, founding colonies, dispatching ships, or launching expeditions. It is a tight, interconnected engine where every decision ripples through the rest of your game. The original holds a 7.6 rating on BoardGameGeek from over 12,000 ratings, and its auction mechanism remains one of the most elegant in the hobby.

Dorn is no stranger to award-winning design. He won the Kennerspiel des Jahres in 2014 for Istanbul, a bazaar-running game that became a modern gateway classic. His catalogue also includes Las Vegas, Karuba, and Genoa, so the man knows his way around a euro.

The new edition features completely reimagined artwork by Naïade (Xavier Gueniffey Durin), the French illustrator behind Tokaido and Namiji. If you have played either of those, you know what to expect: vibrant, atmospheric art that makes you want to just sit and look at the board. Beyond the visual refresh, this edition adds a brand new solo mode and integrates the Bonanza expansion, which was previously sold separately. The rulebook has also been revised and the components upgraded.

Quined Games' Master Print line has a solid track record of giving older euros the premium treatment, and Goa fits that mould perfectly. If you have been eyeing this one for years but could never track down a copy, or if you just want to see what Naïade does with a spice-trading theme, the Gamefound campaign is live now. Anyone who followed the campaign before launch gets an exclusive follower gift with their pledge.
