Gen Con 2026 Names Three Featured Artists Ahead of July Show

If you've played Fabled Passage, Godless Shrine, or Thrumming Hivepool in Magic's Edge of Eternities set, you've already seen Rob Rey's work. He's one of three featured artists Gen Con has announced for its 2026 show, alongside another Magic regular, Sarah Finnigan, and Brooklyn graphic novelist Deb JJ Lee.

Stop juggling Meetup, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets. One platform for your gaming group's events, RSVPs, and member management.

See how it works

Rey is a Rhode Island School of Design graduate who paints the "cosmic perspective," which basically means leaning into the awe of deep space while keeping the science honest. He has around 15 MTG cards to his name and regular D&D commissions. Finnigan is a Texas-based landscape painter with a stack of Magic cards to her name, including Sunscorched Divide, and she got her start with Wizards after meeting art director Zack Stella at Illuxcon in 2019. Her trademark is a path leading into the scene, so the viewer feels like the character walking in.

Lee is the wild card of the trio. They're a Society of Illustrators Gold Medalist whose immersive, bold-palette work sits closer to editorial and graphic novels (the Eisner-nominated In Limbo, Rick Riordan's Heroes of Olympus covers) than Commander decks, but the narrative depth translates naturally to fantasy character art.

All three will be at the Art Show across the full convention, from 30 July to 2 August at the Indiana Convention Center. Expect signings, print sales, and the usual run on limited-edition pieces that tend to vanish by Saturday lunchtime. Gen Con hasn't published signing schedules yet.

The featured artist scheme is a decent excuse to carve out an hour away from the demo halls, and worth a detour if you collect alt-arts or signed promos.
