Fallout Wasteland Warfare 2nd Edition Goes Solo-First in 2026

Modiphius is rebuilding its Fallout miniatures wargame from the ground up, and the new edition leans hard into solo and co-op play. Fallout: Wasteland Warfare 2nd Edition ditches the stat cards and symbol-heavy rules of the original in favour of an AI-driven enemy system closer to how raiders and mutants actually behave in the video games.

See how it works

The first edition, launched back in 2018, drew praise for its Fallout flavour but attracted the same complaints you'd expect from a narrative wargame. Goonhammer called out the managerial creep; reviewers found settlement play immersive but the rules slow. The second edition strips the custom symbols and most of the cards, keeps a few custom dice, and replaces the enemy behaviour with an "alertness level" system tracked with tokens. Different classes of enemy follow different behaviour scripts, so solo play no longer needs a flowchart on the coffee table.

Two starter sets lead the launch. The Into the Wasteland Solo Starter Set is expected in Q3, pairing core rules with a rulebook for custom heroes, wasteland creatures as AI enemies, and a thematic region generator. The Warbands Starter Set follows in Q4, echoing the first edition two-player box with PVC survivors and super mutants. The first new plastic kits will be multipart Vault Dweller heroes, with four male and four female figures and plenty of kitbashing options.

A range of Encounter Boxes, pre-assembled and themed by faction or region, will fill out retail, with a Wasteland Compendium due in early 2027 that covers New California, the Mojave, the Commonwealth, Appalachia, and more. Existing miniatures will get updated rules over time, so the current range isn't being orphaned.

For UK players, this is shaping up as Modiphius's biggest wargame relaunch in years, sitting alongside Fallout Factions and Fallout: Power Play for a proper Wasteland year. Bleeding Cool has the press release detail.
