Geralt of Rivia is heading somewhere unexpected. The Witcher: Path of Destiny - Ronin, a standalone board game set in an alternate world inspired by Japanese folklore, arrives at retail on May 1 via Asmodee for $99.99.
Designed by Go On Board in partnership with CD Projekt RED, Ronin reimagines The Witcher through the lens of feudal Japan. Players control familiar Witcher characters navigating a world of yokai, samurai, and myth rather than the usual Slavic fantasy setting. The core gameplay is quest-driven: players move through a branching narrative, making choices that shape the story while fighting monsters and managing resources. Think of it as a lighter, scenario-based adventure game rather than a long campaign commitment. It supports 1-5 players, plays in about 45 minutes, and is aimed at ages 14 and up. It's fully standalone, so you don't need the base Path of Destiny game or any previous Witcher titles to play.
Ronin isn't arriving alone. The base Path of Destiny game and its Wild Hunt expansion are also hitting retail shelves through Asmodee in May. For groups who backed the original Gamefound campaign, this is familiar territory. For everyone else, May is the first real chance to pick up the Witcher board game experience at a local shop.
The original Path of Destiny campaign earned praise for its narrative quest-driven gameplay, where player choices shape branching storylines. Ronin takes that structure and transplants it into a completely different cultural setting, more reinvention than expansion. If your group enjoys story-driven adventure games, May has you covered.
