Fourth Wing Board Game Lands 15 July, Waterstones First

Rebecca Yarros's Fourth Wing has sold by the truckload to readers who have never touched a hobby board game, and now the dragon-riders of Basgiath are getting a night at the table. The Official Fourth Wing: Rise of the Wingleader, from UK publisher Goliath Games, reaches shelves on 15 July 2026, and in the UK it arrives first as a Waterstones exclusive.

See how it works

It is a light-strategy game pitched squarely at readers of the Empyrean series. Players compete to earn 15 Glory across four pillars, Strength, Agility, Cunning and Connection, unlocking "Signet" powers along the way that hand each rider a unique ability. There is a poker-flavoured streak of bluff and betrayal, plus a nasty catch: fail three of the game's deadly events and you are knocked out entirely. Custom dragon movers push around the board, and a collectible metal Tairn bookmark doubles as the first-player marker, the sort of touch aimed straight at the BookTok crowd. It is rated for ages 14 and up.

Goliath is leaning hard into the fandom. "This game was created by true fans, and that's clear as you live the choices, betrayals and victories that made Fourth Wing a phenomenon," says chief executive Jochanan Golad. The interesting question is whether it turns romantasy readers into regular board gamers, and it is exactly the kind of crossover that gives a group an easy excuse to rope in a friend who "doesn't really play board games."
