Wizards of the Coast has dropped a second Unearthed Arcana playtest of villain-leaning subclasses for fifth edition D&D, and feedback closes on Thursday 30 April. If you fancy your party fighting an evil druid (or playing one yourself), this is the week to weigh in.

Start organising for freeVillainous Options 2 presents three subclasses that haven't appeared in any previous edition of D&D. The Path of Lament Barbarian channels grief and rage in equal measure. The Warrior of Venom Monk leans on poison and serpentine strikes. The Primordial Patron Warlock cuts deals with raw elemental forces older than the gods. Wizards is being upfront about the brief: these are written for players who want to "embrace their inner antiheroes," with the document underlining that walking these paths doesn't lock your character to evil alignment.
This is the second swing at the same theme. The first Villainous Options playtest landed earlier in April with the Pestilence Cleric, Circle of the Titan Druid, Hell Knight Fighter and Demonic Sorcery Sorcerer, alongside feat chains for transforming into a Lich or Death Knight. That earlier doc skewed cosmic and clerical. This follow-up is grimier and more personal, the sort of subclasses you'd build for a redemption arc, a slow-burn betrayal, or just a really memorable BBEG.

See how it worksStandard playtest survey rules apply: download the PDF from D&D Beyond, run the options at your table, and submit feedback through the official survey before the 30 April deadline.
Whether these subclasses make it into a published book or quietly vanish like so much UA before them depends on how loud the playtest response is. If your group has a free session this week, a Path of Lament Barbarian against the rest of the party is a nice excuse to book a one-shot and see how it plays.
