Dark Kingdoms Sends Four Warlords to Carve Up Britannia

Roman Britain is gone, the legions have sailed, and four peoples are circling the same green island. Dark Kingdoms: Conquer Britannia is a strategy and conquest game for 2 to 4 players from Spanish publisher Draco Ideas, and it drops you straight into the messy, blood-soaked birth of the country we now call England.

Each player takes one faction, and the line-up reads like an Anglo-Saxon Chronicle cast list. There are the Saxons of Cerdic in the south, the Angles of Eomer in the east, Hengist's Jutes in the north, and Vortigern's Britons, the old guard clinging to legitimacy as their world slips away. Everyone begins with a fortress, three settlements and an army on home turf, then pushes outward to grab regions and the resources that come with them.

From there it is a land grab. You build fortresses, settlements and fleets to lock down the map, and when armies meet, combat is settled with a mix of dice and cards. The game ends when the Britannia card deck runs dry, and whoever holds the most victory points takes the island. The tension Draco Ideas is chasing sits in that final reckoning: do you play the long game and grind out points, or gamble everything on one last battle?

Draco Ideas has built its name on historical games, and Dark Kingdoms launched on Gamefound in early June, where it cleared its funding goal in short order. If you fancy refighting the fall of Roman Britain across a kitchen table, this is a tidy excuse to gather a group. Round up three friends and start a game night for it.
