Rock bands and board games do not cross over all that often, so here is a fun one for game night. On 31 May, Linkin Park teamed up with CATAN and Warner Music for a fan game night in Hamburg, sitting around 60 fans down to play CATAN Connect together. It is a small story, but a telling one about how far the hobby has spread.

See how it worksCATAN Connect is a massive-multiplayer take on the trading-and-building classic, designed so that everyone plays at once on a single shared island rather than waiting their turn. It is the work of Benjamin Teuber, co-CEO of Catan GmbH and son of Catan creator Klaus Teuber, who ran the session in person. The event slotted into a gap in Linkin Park's European tour, and seats were limited to members of the band's Linkin Park Underground fan club. Band member Joe Hahn turned up just before the game kicked off, and when he suggested a second round, nobody needed much convincing. Two fans, Kathrin and Katja, walked away as the Connect champions, and there were prize draws for concert tickets, merch and CATAN games.
You do not need a touring rock band to pull a crowd around a board, mind. A shared island and a few snacks will do it. If you fancy rounding up your own group, you can organise a game night on Backseat Gamer and skip the stadium prices.
