Critical Role's Sallowlands Brings Six More Daggerheart Episodes

Critical Role is heading back to the Halcyon Domain, this time with a smaller cast and a brand-new region. Age of Umbra: Sallowlands is a six-part Daggerheart mini-series premiering on Thursday 9 July 2026, with Matthew Mercer GMing for a fresh ensemble in Daggerheart bleakest setting yet.

The Sallowlands themselves are a canyon desert of swirling dust storms and tiny communities clinging to the light, tucked into the wider Halcyon Domain that Critical Role main cast launches into on 29 May. Five outcasts get sent off the edge of the map chasing answers, with the usual options being salvation, ancient horror, or one of those Mercer moments where it turns out to be both at once.

The cast is the most interesting bit. Mercer is joined by long-time co-founder Laura Bailey, plus a guest lineup that pulls in Our Flag Means Death star Vico Ortiz alongside Jennifer English, Abubakar Salim, and TTRPG performer Zachery Renauldo. New episodes drop Thursdays at 7pm Pacific on Beacon, Twitch and YouTube, running weekly through 13 August, with YouTube VODs landing the Monday after each premiere.

See how it works

The timing is deliberate. The announcement, posted on 20 May, lines up with Daggerheart first birthday as a published system. Darrington Press has been steadily building it into a properly supported RPG line, with the Hope and Fear expansion due 25 August, adding four new classes, transformation mechanics and 130-plus new adversaries. Sallowlands is essentially the marquee actual-play to anchor that next year of releases.

If you have been thinking about giving Daggerheart a try with your own group, this is exactly the kind of campaign-shaped showcase that does the heavy lifting. Time to rally the table. Find or start a Daggerheart group on Backseat Gamer and grab the core book before July.
