Brave & Bold Turns DC Heroes Into a Bag-Building Duel

Bag-building has quietly become one of the hobby's favourite engines, and now DC is getting in on it. Brave & Bold: Bag Building Combat Game is a head-to-head superhero brawler from Resurrection Games, made with Warner Bros, and it hits retail on 4 September 2026 after a public debut at Gen Con (30 July to 2 August).

Instead of drawing cards or chucking dice, you pull tokens from a bag, place them on your board and activate abilities to hammer your opponent and trigger special bonuses. Lead designer Brad Zander says the aim was a system where "the character you choose truly changes how you play," and the launch roster leans into that with a mix of icons: Superman and Lex Luthor, Batman, the Flash, Wonder Woman, Cheetah, Darkseid and Clayface, each fully asymmetric.

It is built for 2 to 6 players, ages 8 and up, and runs about 30 minutes. The core is one-on-one combat, but it scales up for a bigger table, which makes it an easy sell for mixed groups and younger players who want to throw down as their favourite hero or villain. At launch you can buy two-character starter sets or scoop the lot in an eight-character Combat Vault, with a folding board, a velvet bag, tokens and cards in the box.

Resurrection Games has built its name reviving out-of-print favourites and turning licences into approachable games, with recent titles including the social-deduction romp Scooby-Doo! Mystery Masquerade. Brave & Bold looks like a tidy gateway scrap for comic fans who do not want a three-hour epic. If your group skews toward DC, keep an eye on it for the autumn. Heading to Gen Con to try it first? You can see who else is going.
