Abroad, the European travel game that sold out its entire first print run before SPIEL 2025 had even closed, is finally getting an English release through Portal Games this September. Designers Rodrigo Rego and Danilo Valente, the Brazilian duo behind Landmarks, have built a card-driven exploration game for 1-5 players that's already sitting at 7.9 on BoardGameGeek.

Start organising for freeThe game invites players to explore European destinations through location cards representing real places, blending strategic card play with the kind of thematic pull that keeps you talking about the game long after it's finished. Reviewers have compared it to Wingspan and Ark Nova for the way it draws in newcomers while offering experienced players plenty of depth. Sessions run about 90 minutes.
Abroad has been on a quiet tear internationally. The German edition launched in September 2025, and the first printing sold out before SPIEL Essen wrapped up in late October. The game made the Fairplay Scout Voting's Hidden Gems list, and Udo Bartsch of the Spiel des Jahres jury praised it for "uniting people across borders" and "celebrating the beauty of Europe" in a review on the SdJ website. The game is currently available in nine languages, with seven more planned for Q3 2026.
