Warriors of Chaos Storm The Old World in New Core Set

Warhammer: The Old World is about to get a proper dose of villainy. At Friday's Big Summer Warhammer Preview (26 June), Games Workshop revealed a new two-player core set pitting the Warriors of Chaos against the dragon-guarded empire of Grand Cathay, headlined by the first new plastic Chaos Warriors the rebooted game has had in a very long time.

The set holds 54 miniatures, points-matched on both sides so you can drop straight into a balanced game without any list-building homework. That makes it an easy on-ramp for anyone curious about Games Workshop's mass-battle fantasy game, which returned a couple of years back with its Tomb Kings and Bretonnia core sets.

Chaos players have the most to celebrate. Alongside those new Chaos Warriors come fresh Aspiring Champions, one mounted on a Daemonic Mount and one carrying a Battle Standard, plus lance-armed Chaos Knights built to shatter enemy flanks. The centrepiece is a glorious two-headed Chaos Dragon you can build as either a Lord or a Sorcerer, exactly the sort of model that anchors an army and a display shelf.

There is more on the way for existing players. A new Arcane Journal, The March of Chaos, adds lore and army rules, while Battle March boxes cater for quicker 400 to 750 point games, handy when you want fewer models on the table and a faster finish on a weeknight. Games Workshop has not pinned down release dates yet, saying more will follow nearer the pre-order.
