Chaos Dwarfs Return as Age of Sigmar's Helsmiths of Hashut

After years near the top of every Warhammer fan's wishlist, the big-hatted Chaos Dwarfs are finally getting a proper army. Games Workshop used its Big Summer Warhammer Preview on 26 June to unveil the Helsmiths of Hashut, a brand-new Age of Sigmar faction of daemon-binding, dark-industrial duardin.

These are the Zharrdron, duardin whose ancestors fell under the fiery influence of Hashut long ago and have since embraced their corruption. Games Workshop pitches them as the personification of dark industry, weaponised arrogance and unbridled cruelty, which is a lot of attitude for an army of stout blokes in enormous hats. Chaos Dwarfs have drifted in and out of Warhammer for decades, often as a fan-favourite afterthought rather than a full plastic range, so seeing them headline a preview is a genuine event for long-time players.

On the table they look set to play as a small, elite force. Their signature trick is enslaving daemons and burning them as a resource, building daemonic power as you dominate the battlefield to fuel both spellcraft and ensorcelled weapons. The model range shown off includes the Infernal Cohort, core infantry armed with Hashutite Spears or Blades; a War Despot leader hefting an enormous warglaive and wearing, naturally, the biggest hat of the lot; a Tormentor Bombard mortar that lobs munitions refined from processed daemons; and a colossal Daemonsmith riding an Infernal Taurus, which can be assembled as the named character Urak Taar. A full Battletome brings the lore, art and rules.

No release date has been confirmed yet, but a brand-new plastic Chaos Dwarf army is the kind of thing that sells out fast. If you want someone to crush beneath your daemon-engines, find a local Age of Sigmar group and start planning your forge-host.
