If you have been eyeing the grimdark of the 41st Millennium but never knew where to jump in, Games Workshop has just laid out a whole shelf of on-ramps. In its 5 July Sunday Preview, the Nottingham giant revealed a fresh range of Warhammer 40,000 starter and beginner boxes for the game's latest edition, all going to pre-order on Saturday 11 July with a shop release on 25 July.

Find events near youThe headline box is the Warhammer 40,000 Starter Set, which packs two ready-to-clash Combat Patrol armies, Space Marines and Orks, alongside two battlefield boards, terrain, dice, rulers, the full Core Rulebook and a handbook to walk newcomers through their first games. Below it sits a tiered spread for different budgets: a smaller Introductory Set with a dozen push-fit miniatures, paints and a playmat; two single-faction Getting Started Sets built around a Combat Patrol force and a paint set; a pair of Miniatures and Paints bundles that pair a couple of models with a matched paint scheme; and a Paints and Tools kit for anyone who just wants to start building and painting.
The idea is a clear ladder from "curious" to "committed", with glue-free push-fit models keeping the barrier low. According to Warhammer news site Spikey Bits, the main box lands at around £155, with the cheaper entry points starting from roughly £21.50.
