UK Games Expo 2026: Plan Your Group's Trip to the Show

UK Games Expo is two weeks out, and if your group has not sorted its plans yet, now is the moment. The UK's largest hobby games convention returns to the NEC in Birmingham from 29 to 31 May 2026, and this year carries a bit of extra weight: it is the show's 20th anniversary, two decades on from its 2006 debut.

UKGE has grown into a genuine heavyweight. The 2025 edition drew a record 42,000-plus unique visitors and more than 72,000 total attendances across the weekend, with 780 exhibitors filling the halls. Organisers said the trade hall had grown larger than Gen Con's, leaving UKGE second only to Spiel in Essen for floor space. For 2026 the event spreads across five NEC halls and the neighbouring Hilton, with a board game library, open gaming, tournaments, demo-on-stand previews, RPG and miniatures areas, a Bring and Buy, seminars and a family zone.

That scale is wonderful and slightly daunting, which is exactly why a show this big rewards a bit of group planning. A few things worth sorting now: agree which day or days you are going (Friday and Saturday run 9am to midnight, Sunday wraps at 4pm), book travel and a hotel together before the good rates disappear, and share a list of must-demo games so you are not all queuing at the same stand.

It is also a fine excuse to turn a convention into a proper community meetup. If you run a local gaming group, pick a meeting point and a loose schedule so people can drift in and out without losing each other across five halls. You can create an event on Backseat Gamer so members can RSVP and coordinate before and during the show, or start a community to keep your group together year-round.

Twenty years in, UKGE is the centrepiece of the UK tabletop calendar. Round up your group, make a plan, and go enjoy it.
