Games Workshop has shown its hand on the first Tyranid Faction Focus for 11th Edition Warhammer 40,000, and Lictor fans are about to have a very good summer. The new Ambush Predators detachment hands Deep Strike to all your sneaky big-game hunters and lets them re-roll hit rolls of 1 against enemy CHARACTERS.

See how it worksThe detachment plugs into the new modular system Games Workshop teased at AdeptiCon. In 11th edition each Strike Force gets three Detachment Points to spend, so Tyranid generals can either stack Ambush Predators with two more focused detachments or splice it into an existing Codex plan. That flexibility is the bigger story here. Old 10th edition lists were locked into one detachment for the whole game, and the new system promises a lot more freedom.
The other half of the reveal is the Counterpredation stratagem, which gives Deathleapers, Lictors, Neurolictors and Von Ryan's Leapers +1 Strength and improved AP when they attack hidden enemies. The combination punishes opponents for hugging cover, and turns previously-niche stalker units into a real threat. Lictors in particular have been struggling to justify their points cost since 8th edition, so this is a long-overdue boost.
