If you missed The Old King's Crown the first time round, here is your second chance. Scottish indie studio Eerie Idol Games has brought its acclaimed debut back to Gamefound for a second printing, this time alongside a new expansion called Songs of Home.
Stop juggling Meetup, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets. One platform for your gaming group's events, RSVPs, and member management.
See how it worksThe original quietly built a reputation as one of the most striking strategy games of recent years, pulling in £435,155 from more than 7,000 backers on its first Kickstarter and later winning a Golden Geek award for its artwork and presentation. For the uninitiated, The Old King's Crown is a 1 to 4 player game set in an ancient, crumbling kingdom, where every card is a tiny window into a fantastical land. Four rival factions scheme for the throne through a low-luck blend of bidding, bluffing, hand management and area control, building little card engines as they go. There is a full solo mode too, so it does not have to live or die by your group's diary.
What makes it worth a second look is the story behind it. Designer and artist Pablo Clark spent six years developing the game, hand-illustrating every card himself and leaning on playtest feedback from heavyweight designers including Cole Wehrle, of Root fame, and Patrick Leder. Clark and co-founder Andrew McKelvey have been fixtures at UK Games Expo, demoing the game year after year before its release.

Set up your group for freeThe new Gamefound campaign is the simplest way to grab a copy if you missed the original run, and Songs of Home gives returning players a fresh reason to come back to the throne room. If cutthroat kingdom politics sounds like your group's idea of a good night, round up your players and pick your faction.
