Nottingham studio Paper Fort Games has become a name to watch in UK board gaming, and its biggest project is finally landing on doorsteps. Terraria: The Board Game, the co-operative adaptation of Re-Logic's much-loved sandbox video game, is now shipping to backers.

Find events near youFor the uninitiated, Terraria is a dig, craft, build and fight sandbox, and the board game keeps that loop for one to four players. You manage a custom deck of action cards, spending each turn to move, mine, gather resources or swing at the monsters that turn up, slowly kitting out your character as you push deeper. It is a chunky co-op box built for people who want that video-game rhythm on the table.
Paper Fort is not stopping at the base game. The studio has announced Plantera Awakens, the first of two planned Hardmode expansions, which splits the ongoing adventure into pre-Plantera and post-Plantera boxes. In Terraria terms that is the leap into Hardmode, the tougher back half of the game, and the expansion piles on new biomes, bosses, events and quick-start scenarios. The team says a major goal is making games faster to set up and easier to tune for difficulty, answering feedback from the original campaign.
