Paizo built its name on the Pathfinder roleplaying game, the sprawling fantasy system that picked up a legion of fans when it split off from Dungeons & Dragons. Now the studio has boiled that world into a board game anyone can run cold. Pathfinder Quest, a cooperative dungeon-crawler for one to four players, has reached game shops after shipping to backers earlier this year.

See how it worksThe pitch is simple: no game master needed. You build an adventurer from ancestry, class and ability cards, or grab a ready-made iconic hero, then explore, fight and make choices that ripple across a multisession campaign. An in-box tutorial teaches the rules as you play, so nobody has to swot up beforehand. Paizo pitches it as the middle ground between quick, randomised dungeon crawlers and sprawling, prep-heavy delves: a full campaign of a dozen adventures, each about two hours, that a group can dip into for a night or play straight through.
The idea clearly landed. The BackerKit campaign blew through its goal in about 90 minutes back in September 2025, and the standard edition is now on sale through Paizo's own store and friendly local game shops.

Find events near youThis is exactly the kind of game that turns a curious group into regulars, because nobody has to be the "rules person" to get everyone started. If you have been meaning to pull a few people together for a fantasy campaign night, Pathfinder Quest makes the first session painless. Start a group or set up an event and let the box do the heavy lifting.
