Tabletop Scotland Returns to Edinburgh This September

Scotland's biggest tabletop weekend is back, and now is the time to pencil it in. Tabletop Scotland returns to the Royal Highland Centre just outside Edinburgh from 4 to 6 September 2026, three days of open gaming, demos and traders at what has quietly become one of the UK's friendliest conventions.

The show has come a long way. It launched in Perth back in 2018, where organisers hoped for 500 people and were stunned when more than 1,000 turned up, instantly making it the largest event of its kind in Scotland. It has grown steadily since, drawing around 2,300 attendees before the team moved it to the larger Royal Highland Centre in 2024. It is run by convention director David Wright, a lifelong gamer who used to own a game shop in Kirkcaldy.

What's on offer is proper variety. There are open play areas with thousands of seats, a Games Library so you can try before you buy, a Bring and Buy for offloading and acquiring second-hand games, and a Playtest Zone where designers put prototypes in front of real players. Add tournaments, seminars, roleplaying and miniatures, plus a dedicated Gateway Zone to ease in newcomers, and it is an easy weekend to bring along friends who have never touched a hobby game.

Conventions are also one of the best excuses going to gather your group. If you're heading to Edinburgh in September, it is worth organising a meetup so your regular crew can share tables, split up for demos, and compare loot afterwards. You can spin up a community and post the plan for free on Backseat Gamer, then list your session at the show on the events page.

Tickets and the full event schedule are up on the Tabletop Scotland site now. If your September was looking quiet, it does not have to be.
