Warhammer animation is about to get a lot messier. Among the reveals at Games Workshop's Big Summer Preview on 26 June was The Butcher's Nails, a new Warhammer TV short that GW is billing as the bloodiest and most violent Warhammer animation it has made.

Set up your group for freeThe episode follows Makrath, a World Eaters Berzerker, and tells its story almost entirely from his point of view: literally what he sees through the eye-lenses of his helmet. The World Eaters are Warhammer 40,000's blood-crazed Chaos legion, infamous for the "Butcher's Nails" implants that flood them with rage and lend the short its name. Here they join forces with the Iron Warriors to storm a bastion held by the Imperial Fists and the Astra Militarum. Games Workshop describes the result as near enough one non-stop fight scene, with the helmet-cam framing meant to feel claustrophobic and frantic rather than clean and heroic.
The Butcher's Nails arrives in August as a 14-minute one-off episode of the long-running anthology Hammer and Bolter, streaming on Warhammer+, the publisher's subscription home for its animated shows. The first-person framing is a real departure from GW's usual sweeping battle cinematics, and it is the kind of thing worth queuing up for a group watch before your next game night.
