Stratego Marches Onto Steam, Its First PC Game in Years

Stratego, the bluffing classic where you hide your ranks and hunt for the enemy flag, is marching onto Steam. Developer Wanted 5 Games announced on 4 June that the long-running favourite is heading to PC later this year, its first proper video game outing in nearly 15 years.

Run game nights? Backseat Gamer handles RSVPs, waitlists, date polling, and game voting so you can focus on playing.

If you have not played, Stratego is a two-player game of hidden information. You set up 40 pieces with secret ranks, then probe and bluff your way towards your opponent's flag, remembering what you learn each time two pieces clash. The board game has sold more than 40 million copies over the decades.

The Steam version, Stratego Online, leans into the digital side with a 15-level single-player campaign set in the Napoleonic era, ranked matchmaking that takes you from recruit to grandmaster, practice bots, and cross-platform play with the existing iOS and Android apps. Wanted 5 Games is building it alongside tabletop publisher Jumbo Games.

Got a regular group? Create a private community, poll for the best date, vote on games, and let your friends RSVP in one place.

A demo lands on 11 June for anyone who wants a go before the full release. It is a tidy way to keep your strategy sharp between sessions, though nothing quite beats watching a friend's face when your humble Spy takes their Marshal. If the digital version reminds you how much you miss the cardboard original, round up your group for a game night.
