Visions Brings Bruno Cathala's Dream Card Game to Board Game Arena

Looking for a quick game to kick off your next game night? Visions, the latest card game from designer Bruno Cathala, has just landed on Board Game Arena, free to play in your browser with no download required. Cathala is one of the hobby's most prolific designers, best known for Kingdomino, the tile-laying game that won the Spiel des Jahres in 2017.

Co-designed with Florian Sirieix and illustrated by Seppyo, Visions is a light, fast card game for two to five players that takes about nine minutes a round. You build "dreams", rows of cards that each share a colour or a symbol with the card before them. Every player can have up to two dreams going at once, and the clever part is how the two rows interact. Matching cards across your dreams nudges you up a Reflection track, and dropping an exact colour-and-symbol match into a dream earns a bonus card. Stuck with a card you cannot place? You lay it face down as a "nightmare" and pinch a card from an opponent instead. At the end you score each dream by multiplying its most common colour by its most common symbol, so a tidy, focused dream beats a sprawling, messy one.

This is the kind of breezy, decision-light game that works as an opener while people are still arriving, or a palate cleanser between meatier titles. Board Game Arena is the easiest way to try it before deciding whether it earns a place in your collection. If it clicks with the group, round everyone up for a proper game night and see how it plays around a real table. Cathala has a long track record of small-box games that punch above their weight, and on this showing Visions looks like another.
