Stonemaier Posts Record $25.1M Revenue on Wingspan's Wings

Stonemaier Games, the publisher behind Wingspan, Scythe, and Viticulture, posted record annual revenue of $25.1 million in 2025. That edges past the company's previous high of $24.7 million set during the 2021 pandemic board game boom, and it's largely down to the "Span" trilogy.

Wingspan, Wyrmspan, and the newcomer Finspan collectively accounted for over 610,000 printed copies last year alone. Wingspan itself has now shifted 2.64 million copies lifetime, making it one of the best-selling modern hobby games on the planet. Finspan, the fish-themed spin-off that swaps birds for marine life, sold 233,584 copies in its debut year. For a brand extension, that's a very strong first outing.

The revenue split tells its own story about how modern board game publishers reach players. Trade (distribution plus direct-to-retailer) made up 43% of sales. The Stonemaier webstore contributed 21%, localisation partners 19%, Amazon FBA 13%, and digital royalties 4%. That direct-to-consumer chunk is significant for a company that built its reputation partly through transparent business practices and a loyal community.

Co-founder Jamey Stegmaier was characteristically understated about the milestone, saying that chasing bigger numbers has never been the motivation behind their annual reports. The company is heading into 2026 with a packed slate: a Viticulture expansion, the first Finspan expansion, a smaller 30-minute Wingspan game, and the Scythe vs Expeditions two-player duelling game.

For a publisher that started on Kickstarter in 2012 with Viticulture, hitting $25 million in annual sales is a serious milestone. If you're playing any game with a wingspan, a wyrmspan, or a finspan at your next game night, you're in very good company.
