Stonemaier Games is building its own Unmatched. Scythe vs Expeditions, due in the third quarter of 2026, is a standalone two-player dueling game that finally lets the company's two flagship strategy titles fight it out across the table.

Find events near youThe pitch is simple and a bit irresistible: one player commands a faction from Scythe, the other takes a character from Expeditions, and the two go head to head. The box plays as a complete standalone game, so you do not need anything else to get started. It also doubles as an expansion that hooks into both originals. Every Scythe faction and player mat works with it, as does every Expeditions mech and character, so you can even pit Scythe faction against Scythe faction if you fancy. To sweeten the deal, the release adds a brand-new Scythe faction and new character content for Expeditions, and there will be optional add-on packs with metal versions of the mechs and a plastic airship.
For the uninitiated, Scythe is Jamey Stegmaier's much-loved game of mechs, farmland and slow-burn area control in an alternate-history Europe. Expeditions is its moodier follow-up, sending similar machines and adventurers off on a new journey. Plenty of players own one and not the other, and this is the first time the two share a board.

Scythe vs Expeditions is slated for Q3 2026 and will turn up at Gen Con this summer for anyone who wants an early look.
