Monopoly is swapping Mayfair for Monaco. Hasbro and Formula 1 have unveiled Monopoly Formula 1 Edition (Monopoly F1 Edition for short), and the honest pitch is that it is a licensed reskin of the classic rather than a ground-up redesign. It is a smarter reskin than most, though, and it reaches UK shops on 15 July with an RRP of £39.99.

Set up your group for freeInstead of buying up properties, you pick an F1 team and travel between race locations around the world, collecting challenge fees when rivals land on your patch. The board's 24 spaces are race locations rather than streets, and the tokens cover all 11 teams. The wrinkle worth knowing is how you win, because it borrows from the real sport. There are two titles up for grabs: the first player to complete the circuit takes the Drivers' Championship, while whoever banks the most points lands the Constructors'. A central Grand Prix track has you advance a driver's helmet every time you pass Go. It plays two to six, ages eight and up.
Be clear-eyed about who this is for. It is a present for the F1 fan in your life and a gateway for non-gamers, not a pickup for your Wednesday hobby night. It is well-timed, though. With a race on most summer weekends, it is an easy thing to crack open while the cars are on the telly, roping in friends and family who would never sit down to a four-hour euro. If you are the one who organises everyone, you could set up a casual game night on Backseat Gamer around the next grand prix.
Run game nights? Backseat Gamer handles RSVPs, waitlists, date polling, and game voting so you can focus on playing.
