Rising Sun 2nd Edition Brings Back Eric Lang's Mythic Japan

Missed Rising Sun the first time around? Eric Lang's prestige area-control game is coming back. CMON has a 2nd edition lined up for 31 August 2026, and UK shops already have preorders open, which means one of the most striking miniatures games of recent years is about to be easy to find again.

Rising Sun is a game of uneasy alliances and monstrous power in a mythic feudal Japan. For three to five players across 90 to 120 minutes, you make offerings to the Kami, hire towering monster miniatures to your cause, and forge alliances as you fight for control of the land. It is known for its lavish presentation and chunky figures, the sort of centrepiece game that pulls a crowd to the table. That treatment shows in the price, an RRP of £149.99, though Zatu and other UK retailers are already listing it for less.

A returning heavyweight is a good excuse to get a meatier game back on the schedule. If alliances, table talk and a spot of monster-summoning suit your group, this is one to circle for the autumn. Worth lining up the players in advance, too, since five is where the politics really bites. Round up a group on Backseat Gamer.
