Pendragon: The Boy King Revives the Epic Arthurian Campaign

One of the most ambitious campaigns in tabletop roleplaying history is being rebuilt from the ground up. Chaosium has announced Pendragon: The Boy King, the first volume of a new edition of the legendary Great Pendragon Campaign for the Pendragon RPG, and it lands in pre-release at Gen Con 2026 before a worldwide release in August.

If you have never met it, the Great Pendragon Campaign is a year-by-year chronicle of the reign of King Arthur, following your knights across decades of a war-torn Britain pulling itself out of anarchy. Greg Stafford, the co-creator of RuneQuest and designer of the wider King Arthur Pendragon game, first published it in 1985, and it became the kind of campaign players spend years living inside. Stafford died in 2018, and Chaosium is building this edition from the core of the original alongside notes and material he gathered before his passing.

The Boy King covers the opening stretch of that saga, from the drawing of the sword from the stone to a young, idealistic king taking the throne. It is rewritten and corrected for Pendragon's 6th edition, and Chaosium plans to follow it with further volumes over the next couple of years, each designed to stand on its own rather than demanding you play the whole epic in order.

There are three versions to choose from: a standard edition, a collector's leatherette, and a limited special edition with an alternate cover that the publisher says will not be reprinted. For anyone drawn to British myth and Arthurian legend, this is a centrepiece campaign worth gathering a table for. If you need players to share the quest with, find a group near you and ride out for Camelot.
