Final Fantasy is heading to the tabletop, and it's going right back to where the series began. Origins of Light: A Final Fantasy Board Game is an officially licensed co-op game that takes one to four players through the stories and adventures of Final Fantasy 1, 2 and 3, and it's coming to Kickstarter on 15 October 2026.

Start organising for freeThe game comes from KessCo under a licensing deal with Square Enix, and it's designed by Anthony Thorp, who has a track record in franchise adaptations with board games based on One Piece, Spy x Family and Sonic the Hedgehog. It's the first release from a wider KessCo and Square Enix partnership that also promises collectible dice sets and more Final Fantasy games to come.
Details on exactly how it plays are still thin, but the pitch is a streamlined co-operative romp through the three NES-era classics that launched one of gaming's biggest RPG series, crystals, Warriors of Light and all. Fans who grew up on the recent Pixel Remasters, or the original cartridges, are the obvious audience.
