Magic: The Gathering's Back to School Superdrop went live on 27 April 2026, bringing eight Secret Lair sets with collabs including My Little Pony, Dwarf Fortress, and a return to the Strixhaven setting. The launch lineup looks fun on paper, but reviewers are calling the reprint value across most of the bundle some of the worst Wizards has ever shipped.

Find events near youThe headline collabs are the two My Little Pony drops. Friendship is Magic includes commander staples like Defense of the Heart wrapped in pony art, and Wargamer pegs it as the best value of the eight at around $37 (£30) non-foil. The Lands of Equestria companion drop adds basic lands featuring characters from the show, gorgeous to look at but with no real reprint value beyond the art treatment. Dwarf Fortress: Create New World features the colony sim in its native ASCII art style, anchored by Terror of the Peaks, a $30 commander staple. It is divisive even by Secret Lair standards.
The other five drops include Omens of Chaos (Strixhaven-themed instants), Mahō Gakuin Seishun Hakusho (an anime-styled school crossover) and Return to the Mystical Archive, which is getting the frostiest reception of all. Mystical Archive non-foils currently track at about $2.60 of card value against a $29.99 sticker. "There are some cool art styles here, but the reprint value is the worst I can remember," wrote Wargamer's reviewer.

Bundles run from $224.99 up to $514.99 for the full foil-and-non-foil set. If you collect for the art these are perfectly nice things to buy. If you're after staple reprints to slot into your Commander deck, your money is probably better spent on Secrets of Strixhaven boosters, the actual MTG set this Superdrop is themed around.
