CATAN Studio has officially released Catan - On the Road, a travel-friendly card game that squeezes the essence of the world's most famous board game into a 120-card deck for $9.99. It's available at retail today, April 3.
On the Road is built for 3-4 players and plays in about 15 minutes. The familiar loop is intact: collect resources, trade with opponents, build towards victory. The goal is seven victory points rather than ten, and everything from settlements to roads is handled through cards instead of a modular board. One clever twist keeps downtime low. When another player offers you a trade on their turn, you draw a bonus resource card just for saying yes. It's a small incentive that keeps everyone engaged and trading actively, which is where Catan has always been at its best.
The card-only format means no hexes, no robber placement, and no table space requirements. That makes it ideal for pubs, trains, or anywhere a full Catan setup would be impractical. CATAN Studio describes it as a gateway for new players as much as a portable option for existing fans.
This isn't the first time the franchise has gone compact. The long-running Catan Card Game (now called Rivals for Catan) offered a two-player duel experience, but On the Road keeps the 3-4 player trading negotiation that defines the original. At $9.99, it's also significantly cheaper than most Catan products.
On the Road is part of a busy spring for the franchise, with Catan ZIP Edition, a portable version of the full board game, following in May. If your game night group has ever wished they could squeeze in a quick Catan session between heavier games, this might be exactly what you need. Find your next game night on Backseat Gamer.
