Modiphius's Heroes of Might and Magic RPG Hits Tables in May

Old-school strategy fans, the wait for Erathia at the table is almost over. London publisher Modiphius is pushing its Heroes of Might and Magic 2d20 Tabletop Roleplaying Game to retail this month, almost a year after the Kickstarter wrapped up at €187,872 on 8 June 2025. It is the first time Ubisoft's dragon-and-knight strategy series has had a proper tabletop RPG, and it brings the world of Enroth (the setting of the first three video games) to the table at last.

This is a bigger deal than the funding total suggests. The 2d20 system that powers Star Trek Adventures and Dune is built for grim, military, and sci-fi settings, and Heroes of Might and Magic is the first time Modiphius has aimed it squarely at high fantasy. Lans Macabre Publishing is co-developing the rules, and the setting writing puts the action during The Restoration of Erathia, with Queen Catherine Ironfist's crusade as the launching point. If you played Heroes III, you already know the map.

The Quickstart PDF has been free on Modiphius since April 2025, and the introductory scenario The Krewlod Frontier gives groups enough to run a session before the full book lands. Goonhammer's first impressions called the engine surprisingly nimble for a 2d20 implementation, with hero progression that draws on the strategy game's town-building feel rather than the usual sword-and-sorcery beats. Books will release in English and Polish first, with more languages to follow.

For UK groups, this lands at a sensible time. UK Games Expo is at the NEC in Birmingham on 29 to 31 May, and Modiphius almost always brings demos to the show. If you have been hunting for something to follow up your D&D campaign that does not feel like more D&D, grab the quickstart, run The Krewlod Frontier with your usual table, and start a community to keep it going.
