If your group likes a side order of chaos with its strategy, Iconiq Studios' Ludicurrus is worth a look. It is a push-your-luck chariot racing board game set in the Circus Maximus, and it is currently funding on Gamefound.

Find events near youThe pitch is easy to explain at the table. You race for glory by earning the favour of the gods, outmanoeuvring your rivals, and putting on a show worthy of the Emperor. At its heart it runs on dice and push-your-luck decisions, so every lap is a gamble on whether to charge for the lead or play it safe. Expect bright, characterful art and plenty of swing rather than dry historical simulation, which puts it firmly in pile-up-and-laugh territory.
For an indie release, the campaign has done nicely. According to crowdfunding tracker Tabletop Analytics, Ludicurrus has raised around £23,500 from 272 backers, comfortably past its £10,000 goal at roughly 235 per cent funded. It launched on 17 May and runs until 10 June 2026.
