Lords of Waterdeep Reprint Brings Back the D&D Classic

Lords of Waterdeep, one of the most-loved gateways into worker-placement gaming, is back in print. Renegade Game Studios has reissued the 2012 Dungeons & Dragons board game, and the core box plus its Scoundrels of Skullport expansion are up for sale again, so groups who missed it first time around finally have a clean shot at a copy.

Run game nights? Backseat Gamer handles RSVPs, waitlists, date polling, and game voting so you can focus on playing.

If you've never played it, Lords of Waterdeep is a worker-placement game for 2 to 5 players where you take on the role of a masked ruler quietly pulling strings in the D&D city of Waterdeep. You send agents out to recruit adventurers (coloured cubes standing in for fighters, rogues, clerics and wizards), spend them to complete quests for points, put up new buildings, and play intrigue cards to meddle with your rivals. Each lord has a secret agenda that rewards certain quest types, so the scoring stays tense right up to the final round. It is approachable enough for newcomers while keeping enough needling interaction to satisfy regulars, which is why Wargamer calls it one of the few D&D board games worth playing, and points out it won the 2013 Origins Award as the best board game of the year.

The new version is a faithful reprint rather than a redesign. Renegade lists the core game at $55, with Scoundrels of Skullport sold separately at $40, both available from its own store and game shops.
