Fourteen years after Devin Low's original Marvel Legendary hit shelves, Upper Deck is giving the deck-builder a complete overhaul rather than another expansion. Legendary: A Marvel Deck Building Game Second Edition lands in June 2026, and it is not a reprint. Roughly 250 of the 550 cards have been redesigned for balance, every hero gets four unique pieces of original artwork instead of recycled images, and Miles Morales steps into the core set in place of Deadpool, swapping the chaotic anti-hero for a friendlier headline character.

Find events near youFor context, the 2012 original sits at a 7.6 BoardGameGeek rating with over 13,500 votes and a 2013 Origins Awards nomination, and spawned a small mountain of expansions over the years that followed. The Second Edition keeps the cooperative HQ-recruit-and-fight backbone but cleans up the rough spots that have nagged players for years. Doctor Octopus joins as a new Mastermind backed by the Sinister Syndicate as a fresh Villain Group. Masterminds are now double-sided so groups can pick a normal or epic difficulty version of each foe, and 4-5 player games get a "warmup round" rule to stop villains escaping before anyone has built a deck. Solo mode picks up around four extra turns before defeat, a quiet but welcome buff.
Bystander cards bump up to 42 (from 30), a ninth Scheme joins the eight originals, and S.H.I.E.L.D. Officer Specialists mix in with the regular Officer pool to give the recruit row more variety. The artwork now extends to the card edges for the modern full-bleed look that has become standard since 2013.
