Heroscape fans, the modern revival has another box to fight over. Renegade Game Studios has opened pre-orders for Heroscape: Battle for Blackscar, a two-player Battle Box for the tactical hex-and-miniatures game, and it leads with six brand-new heroes and a board that quite literally grows against you. It is slated for August 2026 at around £50 ($65).
Stop juggling Meetup, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets. One platform for your gaming group's events, RSVPs, and member management.
See how it worksFor the uninitiated, Heroscape is a tactical skirmish game played across modular, interlocking hex terrain. You build the battlefield, then fight over it with army cards and a fistful of d6s. The cult Hasbro classic was revived by Renegade, and Battle for Blackscar is its latest standalone set. It drops you into the shadow-scarred wilds of Blackscar, where assassins, undead royalty, airborne scouts, hardened lawmen and samurai scrap for control.
The six heroes (Agent SI-4X, Sudema, Corvynn, Blink, Cainak and Nishi) split across two alliances, the Umbral Covenant and the Clockwork Combine, with shadow, undead and lawman abilities built to combo across factions. The headline twist is the Shroudshroom, a living fungal hazard that sprouts new terrain mid-game and reshapes your lines of attack. Renegade is promising reactive, interrupt-style abilities for petrifications, quickdraw duels and stealth kills.

Pre-orders include a free copy of the Heroscape: Isamu hero while stocks last. If your group has been waiting for a reason to rebuild the hex table, this is a tidy two-player way back in. Round up an opponent and find a game night near you.
