Sniper Elite: Operation Kraken Storms a Nazi Super Carrier

Karl Fairburne is back behind the scope, and this time he is creeping through the air vents of a Nazi super carrier. Operation Kraken is the first big expansion for Sniper Elite: The Board Game, the hidden-movement game from Oxford studio Rebellion, the same British outfit behind the long-running Sniper Elite video games.

Stop juggling Meetup, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets. One platform for your gaming group's events, RSVPs, and member management.

See how it works

If you have not played the base game, the pitch is one of tabletop's better cat-and-mouse hooks. One player is the lone sniper, secretly plotting Karl's route on a hidden board, while up to three others control German squads hunting for the muzzle flash that gives him away. It is a one-versus-many game of patience, bluff and the occasional perfectly timed shot, designed by David Thompson and Roger Tankersley.

Operation Kraken adds two new battlefields that pull in opposite directions. Norman Village is an open map where armoured cars now prowl the roads, forcing the sniper to think about more than just sight lines. The Super Carrier is the opposite: a cramped warren of interior compartments and air vents where a wrong turn leaves you cornered. The box also brings 43 new cards covering objectives, loadouts and solo play, plus two Defender Armoured Car miniatures.

This one is for people who already own and love the base game, since you will need it to play. Backers are getting their copies now, with UK and European fulfilment beginning around the end of June through Zatu, and the expansion is up for pre-order on Rebellion's own shop at £40 (the base game runs £50).

If your group has worn out the original maps, this is the refresh, and a fine excuse to rally your regular squad for a tense evening of stalking and being stalked.
